Minor Infringement

Minor Threat’s Ian MacKaye Outraged By Nike’s Major Threat Skate Tour
“What the hell were they thinking?” MacKaye, on tour with his current band the Evens, wrote in an e-mail to MTV News. “To set the record straight — Nike never contacted Dischord, nor Minor Threat, to obtain permission to use this imagery, nor was any permission granted. Simply put, Nike stole it and we’re not happy about it. We are not yet sure what actions, if any, we can take to stop this campaign.”

One of the most blatent examples of corporations co-opting cool in order to sell their shitty products. Read No Logo if you’re intersted in finding out more about this phenomenon. Via SvN.

“Go 4th and Save!”

There should totally be a law outlawing the use of national holidays to sell worthless crap.

I just saw a commercial for fucking furniture with the tagline “Go 4th and SAVE!!!” and yeah, OK so it’s just July 4, independence day, not a big deal, fireworks, blah blah.

But wasn’t there a time when July 4th meant something more than just hot dogs, apple pie and cheap furniture? Once it was declared a holiday, weren’t there decades of celebration, yes, but reverence for the people who died for our independence?

Can you see where this is going?

How long until September 11 is just such a day? I’m thinking that like in 50 years, it’ll be a national holiday and in 100-150 years, it’ll just be another holiday that kids have off of school, mommy and daddy don’t have to go to work, and The Furniture Hut is selling super-cheap astro-chairs, no down until 2110!!!!!!!!!

MacIntel OS X leak is something Apple had planned on?

This dude has ten reasons why leaked copies of MacOSX for Intel is not only a good thing, but something Apple had in mind when shipping their developer pre-release boxes:

Given Apple’s experiences with software piracy, particularly the rampant software piracy that spread developer builds of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger all over the Internet this past spring, Apple’s management from the top down knows full well that this developer preview will be in the hands of every kid with a cable modem within days of its release. Most of them will be able to install it on their own computers and run it and the full suite of iLife ’05 applications at full speed, and run most existing Mac software in translation.

As a result, Apple will give thousands, possibly millions, of people a taste of Mac OS X running full speed on their own PCs.

Hi.

You have reached what I’m thinking will probably be Alternate.org’s new design, powered by WordPress, instead of my terribly-coded pile of PHP. This means we’ll have some new features, and it also hopefully means I might actually start, you know, like, posting stuff again. Not that there are many of you left to read it, but hey. Maybe we’ll see a new dawn of Alternate ruling the world. Or probably not.

In any case, the design’s not done in all parts of the site, and I’m sure there are templates lying around that look like hell that you can find if you click around long enough. I’m using Scalable Inman Flash Replacement for the headers, but I’m finding Safari 2 loads the regular headers in view first and then replaces everything, which takes an awful lot longer than it should. If this becomes annoying, I’ll probably turn it off, but let me know what you think, anyway.

Rest in Peace

Yesterday morning, my wife and I found out that an old friend from high school, Arlene Gavrilis (who was also one of my wife’s bridesmaids) was killed in a car accident, on the day that was to be her wedding day.

We mourn this loss and our love and well-wishes are sent to the Gavrilis Family and Adam, her fiance.
