While My Guitar Gently Weeps

George Harrison died yesterday. I’ve never been an enormous Beatles fan, but I have an appriciation for the quality of their music and its influence. As a side note, George Harrison wrote my favorite Beatles song, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” This was unfortunate but inevitable.

Design 404

For all you geek web-designers out there, take a look at 37Signals’ latest launch: Design Not Found, a website dedicated to pointing out the errors we web designers/developers tend to make. Everything is super-professional and you won’t find harshly-worded reviews, just truthful, honest feedback, stuff SU has been so kind as to be doing for me for years.

And now that I’ve really worked tightly with developers on a multi-million dollar project, I understand the importance of small things like showing errors correctly, and this site will do a good job of learning you what to look for. In true 37Signals fashion, the Design Not Found site is a pleasure to use and looks phenominal.

Never Ender, etc.

Scott Sinclair finally has a site. He’s probably most notable for his artwork on Hot Water Music covers. The site is a little poorly laid out, but fuck it, he’s an artist.

WARNING

Funny. Memepool.

Ah, the good old days

Makes me want to go dust off a copy of Zterm or something. ATtention, Dumb Thing!

NO CARRIER -

Not worth it

I can guarantee the person who designed this graphic is getting paid too much, whatever the amount.

Bumper-sticker philosopher

Happy thanksgiving.

And check out my idea for a bumper sticker.

Proud

Confused by the re-format, but damn is this post fucking great. And check out that huge joint. Jeebus.

#32 and in the world ain’t bad

Cam is boasting that he’s still #1, and I’ve found that I’m number 32. Not bad.

The real news though is that Alternate.org is number 5. Yipty-frickin-do.

The tangent universe is unstable

If you thought the Requiem for a Dream, Traffic, or Memento sites were awesome, check out Donnie Darko.

Insanely huge and definitely a lot of work went into it. Pay attention.. you might miss something. Also, I noticed that the little faux popup windows are OS-specific.. they detect which platform you’re on and give you the right faux widgets in the Flash by default. Definitely slick and almost totally transparent to the user.

Apple breakup

via Grant: JUSTICE TO BREAK UP APPLE
FOR TURNING MICROSOFT INTO MONOPOLY

“We had already won the case, so we were thinking in terms of penalties, and when you do that, it is imperative that you punish those most responsible,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney General Charles James. “Well, we couldn’t ignore that since its inception, Apple had numerous opportunities to dominate the operating system market, but instead, management incompetence and arrogance resulted in decisions that gave us the Microsoft we know today.”

How very funny and sad. And pretty true.

Wow. It took like 10 minutes.

So, within like a week of the release of Apple’s iPod, there’s already a site devoted to hacking it. And it looks like its based on the Slashdot code, too. The iPodHacks.com, that is. Not the iPod.

At least in my household

I swear, Shigero Miyamoto must be a household name by now, I’ve seen it so many times recently.

And here’s a link is about the xBox, as Salon calls it, “The Internet Explorer of Gaming Consoles.” (Via Camworld)

Which is not to say it’s bad, but something worse: a Me Too production financed by a company with the resources to accomplish and afford so much more. But where Internet Explorer captured the browser market by being, well, free, the chances in this game-box war aren’t so solid for Microsoft, competing on a truly level playing field for the first time in over 15 years

Jane for short

So the Bitchlog is dead. But fear not, friends: Jane For Short has taken its place, still by Jen, only now apparently she goes by Jane. She’s still Jen to me, and we had a lot of fun this weekend on her way from Vermont to Seattle… mostly eating and drinking, but that’s okay.

because Kev’s had a rough time lately:

I respect them for the sheer climbing skill required to perform this commentary:

Windows XP Evaluation

(this takes a while to load, but it’s worth it.)
